Electronic equalization in optical fiber communications

چکیده
Electronic equalizers, which have been used widely in wireless and wireline communications, have recently been recognized as effective solutions for mitigating the impairments in the optical communications channel as well. Now with the increasing availability of voltage-tunable integrated circuits for high speed operation, equalizers, in particular those based on the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) criterion have emerged as practical and cost-effective solutions. Cenain properties of the optical domain, however, are different than other communications systems where these equalizers have been used. We study the effects of these properties on the performance of the MMSE equalizers through eigenanalysis of the input autocorrelation matrix.

Monitoring And Suppression Of Chromatic Dispersion Using Electronic Equalizer In Fiber Optic Communication Link
Dispersion phenomenon limits the performance of an optical fiber communication link very often, which causes the optical pulse to broaden as they travel through the fiber. These expanded pulses may overlap with each other at the output giving rise to Intersymbolic Interference (ISI). Dispersion posses a great hindrance to achieve high data rates and longer links in fiber optic communication sys...
متن کاملMitigation of Chromatic Dispersion using Different Compensation Methods in Optical Fiber Communication: A Review
Fiber-optic communication systems are light wave systems that employ optical fibers for information transmission to increase several orders of magnitude the bit rate distance product. However the performance of optical fiber communication system is limited by fiber dispersion. Dispersion compensation is the most important and challenging aspect of the optical fiber communication to maintain a h...
متن کاملImprovement of Optical Properties in Hexagonal Index-guiding Photonic Crystal Fiber for Optical Communications
Waveguides with low confinement loss, low chromatic dispersion, and low nonlinear effects are used in optical communication systems. Optical fibers can also be employed in such systems. Besides optical fibers, photonic crystal fibers are also highly suitable transmission media for optical communication systems. In this paper, we introduce two new designs of index-guiding photonic crystal fiber ...
